Regenerative Tourism

Making a Positive Impact
Through Tourism

Our mission is to provide a peaceful place to relax and reconnect with nature, while at the same time ensuring that our practices are part of a regenerative tourism dynamic. We do our utmost to ensure that HOM has a positive impact on its community and surrounding ecosystems. Discover our 4 main lines of action.

Energy Efficiency

We have implemented a number of measures to reduce our energy consumption:

  • Installation of heat pump systems in all units to reduce electricity consumption by 30 to 40%.
  • Installation of a remote control system for building temperature, spa water, lighting and floor temperature.
  • Strategic orientation of chalets' windows to optimize use of solar energy according to the seasons.
  • Support from two engineering firms (PSB constructions and Énergère) specializing in energy performance and eco-responsible construction.
  • Selection of the best building structure to limit energy losses, using cutting-edge simulation software.

Civic Engagement

We are actively involved in our community to understand the various issues and be an agent of change. Here are some of these initiatives:

  • Vice-President of the Board of Directors of the Val-des-Monts Business Association: Promotion and support of local entrepreneurs in their respective needs.
  • Member of the Urban Planning Advisory Committee of the Municipality of Val-des-Monts: Analysis of requests for exemptions from municipal regulations and comprehensive development plans.
  • Member of the Common Investment Committee of the MRC des Collines-de-l'Outaouais: Analysis of financing requests from businesses and organizations.
  • Volunteer for the McGregor Lake Association: Collection of data to monitor the lake's evolution, season after season.
  • Collaboration with a team of biologists to better understand the HOM forest, and eventually protect its integrity.

Local Partnerships

To reduce our footprint and stimulate the local economy, we collaborate with local businesses and organizations:

  • Catherine from Maison Melda, who prepares extraordinary dishes using local ingredients.
  • Danou, a woodworker working with reclaimed wood that would otherwise have been destined for unusable waste.
  • Nicolas from Chelsea & Co., who provides a tasting of beers selected exclusively for HOM.
  • Roxanne from Créations du Lac soap factory, who produces all the soaps found inside the chalets.
  • Regional activity sites (Éco Odyssée and Arbraska Laflèche) through promotional offers exclusive to HOM customers.

Carbon Neutrality

Here are a few initiatives that enable us to measure the impact of our actions in concrete terms, and to offset these emissions each year:

  • Implementation, in 2022, of a greenhouse gas calculator specifically adapted to HOM mini chalets (in collaboration with SADC Papineau-Collines).
  • Improved sorting of residual materials.
  • Reduced distances travelled by suppliers.
  • Use of household products with less impact on the environment.
  • Installation of charging stations for electric cars from Quebec’s Electric Circuit.
  • Plantation of trees to offset our greenhouse gas emissions.
